    Nov. 12, 2009

On the eve of UNC's opening game in the 2009 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, UNC athletic communications student assistant T.J. Scholl sat down with UNC senior forward Casey Nogueira for a quick question-and-answer session. Nogueira, who normally leads by her actions more than her words, appears focused and ready for a championship run by the Tar Heels.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: After being named the consensus National Player of the Year last season, did you feel any added pressure coming into your senior season?
Casey Nogueira: Yeah, and also this year being my senior year, I felt some pressure to perform because as seniors we are supposed to lead the team.

T.J. Scholl, TarHeelBlue.com: What were your expectations coming into the season this year? And so far do you think the team has met them?
Casey Nogueira: I think every year we play to win a national championship and we are continuing to improve with each game so we'll see what happens.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: Heading into the postseason for your final time, how much different are the emotions knowing every game could be your last?
Casey Nogueira: There are definitely a lot of different emotions. I am sad to be leaving this team because they are like my family so I want to make the most of every practice and game I have left with them and I can't believe I'm a senior. I still feel like a freshman.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: What is the most important thing you have learned from Coach Dorrance throughout your career?
Casey Nogueira: How to sprint...and lots of other good stuff.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: What will you miss the most after this year is over?
Casey Nogueira: Seeing 30 of my best friends everyday.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: Outside of soccer, if you could spend a weekend doing anything what would you do?
Casey Nogueira: Hang out with my teammates probably, maybe climb something and dance.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: What advice would you give to younger athletes that aspire to be in your position?
Casey Nogueira: Have fun it's just a game.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: What is your favorite place to eat in Chapel Hill?
    Casey Nogueira: Panera.

T.J. Scholl, Tar HeelBlue.com: What is your favorite quote or saying?
    Casey Nogueira: RAWRRRR!
