    Casey Nogueira scored three goals to beat Wake Forest in the NCAA women's soccer quarterfinal and is the Progress Energy tar Heel of the Week for November 23-29, 2009. The senior from Raleigh helped UNC to a 5-2 quarterfinal win over the Demon Deacons. It was the fourth hat trick of Nogueira's career and the 11th multi-goal game of her time at UNC. Nogueira scored less than four minutes into the match and then added back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart in the second half to give UNC a 5-1 lead.

    Deon Thompson scored 45 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in wins over Gardner-Webb and Nevada. He matched his career high with 22 points and added 10 boards against GW, then set a new career high with 23 points in the win over Nevada. It was the first time in his career he scored 20 or more points in consecutive games.Thompson was 19 for 28 from the floor in the two games (67.9 percent) and 7 for 9 from the line.

    Sophomore forward Alex Dixon lifted Carolina past Indiana, 1-0, with a 28th-minute goal Sunday in the third round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Humble, Texas, native scored for the second straight postseason game and is second on the team with seven goals on the season.
