    COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS - University of North Carolina senior women's soccer player Kristi Eveland of Southlake, Texas was named Thursday night as the 2009-10 recipient of the Elite 88 Award for women's soccer as presented by the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The award was announced at the 2009 Women's College Cup banquet held Thursday night in Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University campus.

    Beginning with the 2009-10 championships season, the NCAA has instituted an academic recognition award program which is entitled the Elite 88. The award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

    Eveland is a senior enrolled in the Kenan-Flagler School of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina. A defender, she is a four-year starter for the Tar Heels who will play in her 106th career game when UNC meets Notre Dame Friday night at 8 p.m. EDT in the Women's College Cup semifinals in College Station, Texas. Each of the past two years Eveland has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Women's Soccer Academic All-America first team.
