CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--Logan Foulks posted four RBI and Lori Spingola pitched four shutout innings as the No. 24 North Carolina cruised to a 16-0 victory over Longwood Wednesday afternoon at Anderson Stadium. Jordan Scarboro and Jenna Kelly tallied three RBI apiece in game one. The Tar Heels battled back from a 3-1 deficit to win, 10-5, in game two of the doubleheader. UNC improves to 9-0 on the season.

    GAME ONE

Jordan Scarboro put the Tar Heels on the board in the bottom of the first with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right field. Jenna Kelly followed up with a three-run home run down the right field line. It was the freshman's first career home run and gave the Tar Heels an early 4-0 advantage.

Foulks and Scarboro each notched two-RBI singles in the bottom of the second inning to increase the Carolina lead to 8-0.

The flood gates opened in the fourth frame, beginning with an RBI-double by Dickey. Freshman Amber Parrish later came in to pinch-hit for Amy Nece and scored Stephanie Krider on a groundout to Longwood's shortstop. Megan Morrison then pinch hit for Elisha Elliot, who started the game at second base, and unleashed a two-run home run over the left field fence. It was the second homerun of Morrison's career. Foulks picked up two more RBI with a single to left field before Kati Causey and Foulks scored on wild pitches. In all, the Tar Heels racked up eight runs on five hits in the fourth to go up 16-0.

Spingola held the Lancers hitless over four innings of work, walking one batter and tallied four strikeouts. The sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., is now 6-0 on the season.

Redshirt junior Constance Orr came in to relieve Spingola in the fifth, recording two walks and one strikeout in her first outing in the circle since 2010.

    GAME TWO

Longwood struck first, scoring on an error by Carolina's Ally Blake in the second inning. But the Tar Heels evened the score at 1-1 with a pinch-hit RBI by freshman Lauren Walker in the bottom half of the frame.

The Lancers added two more in the top of the third as Brooke Short roped a RBI-triple down the right field line and Jordan Cox later reached base on a fielder's choice to score Short, giving Longwood a two-run edge at 3-1.

Carolina again answered in the bottom half of the inning, beginning with a two-RBI double by Haleigh Dickey to knot the score at 3-3. Morrison was again clutch for the Tar Heels, coming in to pinch hit a two-RBI single to left field, giving UNC its first lead of the game at 5-3. Kelly later scored on an error by the Longwood shortstop and Paige Williams added another run, scoring Nece on a fielder's choice to put Carolina ahead by four (7-3).

Longwood pared the deficit to two (7-5) in the fourth with a RBI-single by Cox and Ashley Kramer drew a walk to plate Kori Nishitomi.

Kelly then countered for Carolina, posting the second home run of her collegiate career, hitting a three-run shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth to put the Tar Heels up five at 10-5.

Sara Buchholz (3-0) started in the circle for Carolina in game two logging three and two-thirds innings, giving up 5 runs, three earned, six hits and two walks. Sophomore Ashley Bone came in to relieve Buchholz in the fourth with the bases loaded. The Rocky Mount, N.C., native threw two scoreless innings and surrendered only one hit. Unfortunately, the one hit was a line-drive that went off the sophomore's glove and into her face, forcing her to leave the game. Orr came into pitch the final four outs, surrendering two hits and striking out two Lancer batters.

Carolina returns to Anderson to host the 2012 Carolina Classic Feb. 24-26. Minnesota and James Madison face off in the opening game Friday evening at 6 p.m. The Tar Heels first game will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against Notre Dame, followed by a 3 p.m. matchup with Minnesota.
