    The 21st-ranked North Carolina softball team (41-13) was selected to the NCAA Women's College World Series' Athens. Ga. Regional by the NCAA Selection Committee Sunday night. The Tar Heels will be the second seed in the regional and will face the Georgia Southern Eagles Friday, May 18.

    Senior outfielder Kelli Wheeler and junior third baseman Haleigh Dickey were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Tournament Team Saturday evening. ACC Tournament Champion Georgia Tech led the squad with four selections, including Most Valuable Player Hope Rush. Tournament runner-up Virginia Tech also had four selections.

    Jasmine Harrell held the ACC's top-scoring offense to one run as fourth-seeded Virginia Tech upset No. 21 North Carolina, 4-1, in the ACC Tournament Semifinals. Amber Parrish tallied a RBI-single in the loss.

    North Carolina, seeded No. 1 in the ACC Softball Championship for the first time since 2008, opened play in 2012 with a 10-4 win over No. 8 Boston College (23-30). With the win, the Tar Heels improve to 41-12 and advance to the semifinals where they will face the winner of the Maryland and Virginia Tech game at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
