    Erin Arevalo held the Tar Heel offense to three hits as 10th-seeded Georgia held on for a 2-1 victory over No. 21 North Carolina to win the Athens Regional at Jack Turner Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels finish the season with a 43-15 ledger.

    10th-seeded Georgia ran out to an early 3-0 lead and Erin Arevalo pitched seven innings of two-hit ball to edge North Carolina, 3-2. Senior Kelli Wheeler tallied a RBI in the loss to the Bulldogs, as the Tar Heels falls to 42-13 and will now face the winner of Georgia Southern vs. Coastal Carolina in an elimination game at 5 p.m.

    Lori Spingola tossed eight innings of one-run ball and Jordan Scarboro drew a hit-by-pitch to walk in the winning run, as No. 21 North Carolina edged Georgia Southern, 3-2, at Jack Turner Softball Stadium Friday afternoon. Haleigh Dickey also tallied a RBI in the win over the Eagles as the Tar Heels improve to 42-13 on the season.

    The 21st-ranked North Carolina softball team (41-13) was selected to the NCAA Women's College World Series' Athens. Ga. Regional by the NCAA Selection Committee Sunday night. The Tar Heels will be the second seed in the regional and will face the Georgia Southern Eagles Friday, May 18.
