    No. 7 North Carolina will seek a third consecutive trip to the NCAA quarterfinals when the Tar Heels face 10th-seeded Miami Thursday at 7 p.m. on the McWhorter Courts at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. Carolina won the regular season meeting against the Hurricanes, a 4-3 decision in Chapel Hill.

    North Carolina head coach Brian Kalbas was named the Carolina Region Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year and senior Shinann Featherston earned a pair of regional honors, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced this week. A two-time All-America performer from Rockaway Park, N.Y., Featherston was named Carolina Region Senior of the Year and was given the Cissie Leary Award for Sportsmanship.

    No. 7 North Carolina withstood an incredible comeback from Arizona to advance to the NCAA Championship final site in Athens, Ga., with a 4-2 victory Saturday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Caroline Price won 9-7 in a third-set tiebreak to give the Tar Heels the clinching point and a spot in the round of 16 for the third year in a row.

Haley Hemm, Tessa Lyons and Caroline Price were singles winners for the Tar Heels, who will face Arizona Saturday at 3 p.m. for a spot in the round of 16 in Athens, Ga.

    No. 7 North Carolina begins play in the 2012 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship Friday when the Tar Heels welcome Atlantic-10 champion Richmond to the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center at 1 p.m. Carolina, which enters the event with a record of 22-6, is looking to win its 12nd straight opening round NCAA match, a streak that dates back to 2001.
