Tar Heels Set To Continue Spring Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

After opening the spring season nearly a month ago the Carolina volleyball team will be back in action this weekend when they host the first of two home tournaments.  The Tar Heels will be in action on Saturday, April 5 along with Saturday, April 12 in Carmichael Auditorium.

April 5 will see the University of Tennessee come to town for a set of scrimmages against Carolina and the USAV All Star Team which features several former Tar Heels.

8:00 a.m. - Carolina vs. USAV All Star Team
9:30 a.m. - Tennessee vs. USAV All Star Team
11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - Carolina vs. Tennessee (scrimmage games)
Lunch Break
1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - Carolina vs. Tennessee

USAV team "Get Crump" features many familiar faces to Carolina Volleyball as the majority of players are UNC alumni featuring: Former UNC ACC Player of the Year & All America OH- Laura Greene; UNC All ACC Setter - Eve Rackham; UNC - MH - Aletha Green; UNC - MH - Amy Beaver, UNC - MH - Katie Wright; UNC - Libero/OH - Caroline deRoeck; UNC - DS - Heather Catlin. And All ACC - OH - Tina Maso de Moya-Washington of Wake Forest; All Big Ten OH - Amanda Metz, Indiana University; Setter/Libero - Stephanie Haskell of Clemson University; and two-time All-American and NCAA Champion MH/OH Marissa Martin of UCLA.

On Saturday, April 12 UNC will host its annual spring play date which will feature both indoor and outdoor competition.

  • Play begins at 9 a.m. and continues through noon in Carmichael Auditorium as UNC will host a round robin competition with Duke, James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth.
  • Then from 1:30 - 5:00 p.m. the four teams will move outdoors to the UNC Outdoor Education Center Sand Courts and compete in doubles competition. Twelve doubles teams representing each school will compete in the afternoon.

    Special Note
    Sunday, April 13 - 2:00 p.m. The UNC Volleyball Annual Awards Banquet at the North/Pope Box at Kenan Stadium will be the site where UNC will salute its graduating seniors and present their annual team awards.     Carolina will wrap up spring competition on Saturday, April 19 on the road at the Great Lakes Center Collegiate Tournament in Aurora, Ill. featuring 24 college teams from throughout the country.
