GREENSBORO, N.C.--Seven former members of the University of North Carolina volleyball team have named to the Atlantic Coast Conference 50th Anniversary Team, announced today by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. Erin Berg, Liz Berg, Jill Berkebile, Sharon German, Donna Meier, Amy Peistrup and Tori Seibert each earned their place on the team.

Carolina placed the second highest number of players on the 53-member team, with Duke placing 10 and Clemson also placing seven. Rounding out the conference, Georgia Tech, Maryland and NC State placed six, Florida State placed five, Virginia placed four and Wake Forest placed two.

Erin Berg (1995-1998), was statistically the best setter in program history. The ACC Player of the Year and first-team performer in 1998, Berg set single-season school records for total assists with 1,780 and assists per game with 13.59. That year, she was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-District III team. A member of the All-ACC freshman team in 1995, she went on to set Carolina career records for assists (5,751) assist average (12.56 per game). Her career assists total is third best in ACC history.

Liz Berg (1987-1990) was an ACC first team selection in 1989 and 1990 and was a second team selection in her freshman season of 1987. She was a contributor on the Tar Heel ACC Championship teams of 1988 and 1989. In 1989 and 1990, she was also a AVCA All-Region second-team performer. Berg is ranked in the top five in 10 statistical categories - career kills, kill attempts, digs, kill average, dig average and season totals for service aces, kill average and dig average. She holds the top ranking for career aces (235) and ace average (0.54). Her 235 aces are the third highest career total in conference.

Jill Berkebile (1983-1986) was an ACC first team performer in 1985 and 1986 and a member of the Tar Heel ACC Championship team of 1983. As a junior she set school record for kills in a season with 563, and as a senior she set the season mark for digs (505) and dig average (3.80). She is also fourth on the career list with 1,209 digs during her four seasons.

Sharon German (1986-1989) holds the distinction of being the first Tar Heel to be named ACC Player of the Year in 1989. She was a three-time ACC first team selection. As a junior and senior, she led the team to the ACC Championship, winning the Tournament MVP award both years. She is the only Carolina player to win the award twice. Statistically, she set school career marks for kills with 1,937 and attempts 4,182. She is second all-time in career kills in the ACC. In addition to being ranked in the top five of six other season and career records, she holds the school and conference season records for kill average (5.53 in 1989) and the school record for hitting percentage (.380).

Donna Meier (1981-1983) was a member of three-consecutive ACC Championship teams, and was dubbed the MVP of the 1983 Tournament. She was an ACC first team selection in each of her seasons and a member of the All-Tournament team in 1981. A middle blocker who transferred from the University of New Mexico, was a North Carolina Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NCAIAW) All-State team member in 1981.

Amy Peistrup (1988-1992), the ACC Player of the Year in 1992, was a three -time ACC first team member. In her freshman season, she became the only Carolina player to win conference Rookie of the Year honors, while helping to lead the Tar Heels to the ACC Championship that year. She holds the top two season marks for service aces with 79 and 78 in 1991 and 1992, respectively. She is ranked third in Carolina history for assists (4,563) and ace average (0.48) and second in both digs (1,245) and service aces (231).

Tori Seibert (1996-1999) was a two-time All ACC performer and the MVP of the 1999 ACC Tournament. She was also an ACC second team honoree in 1996 and 1997 as well as a member of the freshman All-ACC team in 1996. In 1996, 1997 and 1999 she was named to the AVCA All-District III team. She holds the Carolina records for career block assists (464) and career hitting percentage (.349) - the third best mark in conference history. She is also ranked in the top five of six other statistical marks, including career kills, career block solos, career blocking average, season block assists, hitting percentage and blocking average.

The 53-member team was voted on by nine league institutions as decided on by the league's 50th Anniversary Committee. The ACC, founded on May 8, 1953, is celebrating its 50th year.
