Brooks Earns First Team Academic Accolades

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Senior Heather Brooks was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District III First Team Thursday. Three Academic All-District teams are chosen in each district, with those student-athletes on the All-District first teams placed on the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The East Lansing, Mich. product is Communications major with a minor in public relations, who sports a 3.32 GPA at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Brooks is a two-time member of the All-ACC Academic Team. Brooks is joined by three players from the ACC on the seven-member first team squad, Florida State's Brianna Barry, Duke's Rachel Moss and Virginia's Lauren Dickinson. Heather Brooks was named to AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and AVCA All-East Region in 2008. The senior became the fourth player in school history to garner AVCA All-America accolades. Brooks ranks second all-time in school history with 372 career block assists. The East Lansing, Mich. native also ranks in the top-five in school history in career blocking averaging and single season blocking average. The senior posts career highs in kills (223) and hitting percentage (.340) in 2009. Brooks registered a career high 18 kills this season in a win over Boston College.
