Prussing Earns Volleyball Academic All-District Honors
Nov. 11, 2008
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina senior Lauren Prussing has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 third team for volleyball, announced recently by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award is based on both academic and athletic achievement. Prussing, an outside hitter from Highlands Ranch, Colo., is majoring in exercise and sport science and carries a 3.56 grade point average. She has started 21 of 26 matches for the Tar Heels (17-9, 11-4 ACC) this season and leads the team in kills for the second year. In October, she became the first Tar Heel in two years to reach 25 kills in a game and she has registered double-digit kills in nine of the last 11 matches. A two-time member of the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Volleyball Team, Prussing also has been named to the Dean's List and the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She is a member of the Athletes in Action leadership team and volunteers at UNC Hospitals. Last summer, she spent three weeks in Vietnam with Coach for College, a program for children that uses athletics to encourage academic success. Prussing also participates in the Carolina Leadershop Academy's Veteran Leaders program.
